Close to eight years ago I was probably like you are right now. I was in despair about my growing weight problem. My doctor warned me I was on the verge of getting type2 diabetes. I thought I would never get back to my normal weight. But I did. And the most amazing thing about that? It was with my own body’s help and approval.
I got the fastest best weight loss possible. But what is even better – It has become a permanent weight loss. I have lived the past 7 years – without a diet, without counting calories and without binges or hunger pains. My metabolism is back at work. It makes sure the weight will never return. Throughout the seven years, I have never once experienced the pre-type2 diabetes symptoms that plagued my daily life for twenty years.
So who am I? My name is Kirsten Plotkin. I live in Australia. I am a seventy year old, retired Business Woman. The reason I know all the stuff I write about, is because I was there. I saw it all happen from the sidelines. I got caught up in it and like millions of others I suffered for my gullibility. We all know stuff that we rarely think about. That’s because we tend to think of old stuff as obsolete stuff. But in my case, the old stuff I didn’t think about was stuff that could have saved me from twenty years of weight problems.
Seven years ago, I finally began to use my head. Diets and dieting is not on the curriculum in any medical school. In any case, Dieticians and Nutritionists do not attend medical school. They don’t learn the basic facts about how the human body works. Yet in the past, understanding our metabolism and digestive system and knowing how they treat the food we eat, was basic, common knowledge. As it should be!
Today it’s not so much that people don’t know and are therefore receptive to false information. It’s that the false information suits the agenda of people and corporations who profit from weight problems and growing obesity statistics. It’s in their interest to overcomplicate our body and move it into the realms quasi science.
Who are these people? They call themselves Nutritionists and their home-made curriculum comes from the late nineteen seventies. That was a time when just about everybody claimed to be an expert on something. Worthless theories about diets and dieting were tossed around. A few of those theories were manna from heaven to a then fledgling cereal and snack food industry. They put their support behind Nutritionist. Carbohydrate was elevated from a very minor role, to become the dominant feature of our regular diet.
The diet and snack food industry, were quick to use and promote Nutritionists. Soon they set up their own research facilities to create credible ‘health’ information that would support the carbohydrate position favoured by Nutritionists. This was a truly profitable alliance. It would lead to a growing industry guaranteed to last. Why? Because it was founded on an potent addiction. I cannot say that these ‘experts’knew all along, that manufactured carbohydrate was highly addictive. Or that weight problems would lead to obesity, type2 diabetes, heart disease bowel and colon cancer. I’m also not saying that they knew their advice would ultimately lead millions to become carbohydrate addicts, or to cause today’s obesity epidemic.
Instead – let’s just say it all turned out to be mighty convenient. It is not by chance that the cereal and snack food industries, along with nutritionists and diet gurus, have grown and blossomed during the same period. The diet we eat today, may be the right food for our taste buds, but we are most certainly not eating the right food for our metabolism and digestive system. The human body doesn’t adapt – it evolves! Evolution takes a lot longer than forty years. We are no longer in touch with the needs of our own body. We have had forty years on the wrong diet and very few people are around who still remember the right one!
I never had a weight problem till I was 43. But then we had a worldwide cholesterol scare campaign. Like most people, I had a cholesterol test. My doctor said my cholesterol was too high. Like millions of others, I was referred to a nutritionist, who put me on the new, celebrated diet widely known as The Pyramid Diet. This began a twenty year struggle with my weight. When I came to my senses, I realized my metabolism no longer controlled and balanced my weight. My digestive and intestinal systems were in crises. Several of my colonoscopies had produced polyps. That’s a pre-cursor to bowel cancer. I had constant food cravings. Often for foods that had never appealed to me in the past. – Foods like pasta and sweets.
I required several daily medications to help my body do the work nature used to do. To top it off, my doctor warned I had borderline type2 diabetes. Something was very wrong and the truth began to dawn on me. These were all signs of eating foods my digestive and intestinal system disagreed with. I was simply eating the wrong food. So how come, I knew so much about the right food? When I went to school, we were taught things like that. Nobody thought of going on a diet. Diets were for sick people who had diabetes or a thyroid condition. But we were expected to know the basic foods our body required. And to know the foods that were dangerous. It was like the information grandma taught us.
People today, who presume to teach us how to treat our body and what to put into it, do not have that same, basic knowledge. They work with home-made ideas and theories. These theories are not related to the functions of our body. They are related entirely to the taste, appearance and perceived nutritional value of the foods they recommend. There is a disturbing link of some of those recommendations, to manufactured foods that come off a processing line. Another sign of synergy at work!
All these highly regarded theories were originally developed in the 1970’s, by unqualified people. They were people who wanted an authority niche on the fringe of medicine. I know this because I was there. For credibility they decided to create a modern new diet. A diet everyone would need before they could claim to be truly healthy.
They looked at all the elements of our traditional diet and decided the best way to get authority was to offer something completely different. The simplest, most effective way to be different was to reverse engineer the traditional diet. Rather appropriately, they called their version The Pyramid Diet. Nobody raised a voice to ask if a reversal of our diet was safe for our body. Nobody has asked that question to this day. The consensus was that since this was obviously a ‘healthier’, more modern diet, the body would readily adapt. There is no foundation for that belief.
It would not be easy to get millions of slim people to embrace a diet. Dieting wasn’t a normal thing to do. But they had some help. A cholesterol and diet scare campaign had just begun. Our new experts announced they had a modern, new Diet that proved to lower high cholesterol. How were they able to claim that? Nobody has ever asked – not even the medical profession. It was simply hinted the diet had been thoroughly researched and tested. To this day, that has never happened.
Nobody thought to ask how the human body would handle a complete reversal of our natural diet. After all, this was a reversal of the very foods we had evolved with for centuries. They had made us the people we were. Evolution takes centuries not a few decades.
Well… Take a good look at us today! We’re all getting fat. We are heading for obesity, if we are not already there. When asked, all the self-proclaimed experts, such as Nutritionist, Dieticians, diet gurus, Cereal and snack food manufacturers. They will all quickly point out that; ‘the body will always adapt’. It’s amazing that for almost forty years, nobody, with any genuine qualifications, ever thought to prove them wrong. Possibly because the subject of dieting held no interest to science or the medical profession. The subject was never meant to require an expert.
The fact is: As individuals, we can choose to adapt our food, our fashion, our ideas and anything else we desire. But the human body, shared by us all – never adapts. It evolves and evolution takes centuries. Not four decades. Till forty years ago, very few people, except sick people, ever dieted. Why would they? Most people were slim and healthy. Today it is normal for almost everybody to diet – And almost everybody is getting fat. Statistics say Sixty% so far. This is expected to reach eighty% by 2020.
A basic truth is a fact that is unalterable. It Is – And Always Remains – What It Is. Our body works a certain way and no matter how much ‘diet talk’ becomes shared dogma, and no matter who does the ‘preaching’, it remains false dogma. It will remain false dogma, unless – or until some massive, evolutionary changes, take place inside the human body. Changes that can somehow, conveniently fit in with the prevailing ‘nutritional’ theories of the day!
We must stop being victims to an industry that hopes to go on using us as a permanent income stream. Don’t be fooled. The goal here is not about a healthy balanced diet, or a slimmer population. It’s about self importance and self promotion for the ‘profession’. And ever more customers for the cereal and diet food industry to grow their bottom line.
